There's a myth that if you didn't start dancing as a tot, you've missed the boat. It's simply not true. Plenty of our teenage dancers began in secondary school — and some of the most rewarding journeys start later, not earlier. Here's how dance fits into a busy teenage life, whether your teen is a total beginner or ready to push hard.
Teenagers learn fast. They follow instructions, they're self-motivated when they enjoy something, and they bring real commitment. A keen 13-year-old beginner can make remarkable progress in a single term. We make sure beginners are welcomed into the right group and never thrown in at the deep end.
Most styles work beautifully for this age group:
We know teenage diaries are packed with homework, exams and other commitments. Our classes run after school and into the evening, and we'd always rather a dancer kept a class they love as their one steady, restorative fixture during exam season than dropped it altogether. Talk to us about timings and we'll help find something that fits.
For a first class, comfy clothes they can move in and a water bottle are all that's needed — no need to buy anything. We'll point you to the right dancewear later if they carry on.
The easiest first step is a no-pressure trial class. Have a look at the timetable for older classes at your nearest venue and book one in. If your teen is nervous about walking in, our guide on what to expect at a first class will put both of you at ease.
